The Essex Study: Optimised Classroom Acoustics for All
Presents the findings of a study conducted in an Essex secondary school, a school with a large resource base for deaf students, on the effect of change of room acoustics, as measured in terms
of reverberation time. 400 children were involved directly in the study, including 17 children with hearing impairment. Student, teacher and visitor questionnaires and interviews were also used. Results indicated a very strong correlation between reverberation time and perceived quality of the teaching environment for both speech and listening.
