Best Practices in Educational Facilities Investments

Gyeonggi Art School Art Hall, Wonmi-gu, Bucheon City, Gyeonggi, Korea

Exemplary design categories: community use and involvement, music and theatre facilities

How the facility meets the needs of education and communities:
The basic goal of this project was to design a cultural and artistic space for students and the community. The Art Hall, Practice Room and Gallery are open to the public, and sound and lighting equipment can also be rented there. Streets on the site were used as a promenade connecting the community park with street mall on the campus. The performance hall has 572 seats total (376 seats at lower level and 196 seats at upper level) and main and sub stage for orchestra playing, orchestra pit, upper class standard for sound and lighting equipments. The visual axis follows the shape of the land and introduces a cubic form, creating an open space for the public to view the facility and surrounding area. A music screen on the facade shows am image of an equaliser and piano keyboard.

Involvement of users and the local community in the planning and design process:
Users and the local community were involved in the planning and design process in four separate meetings.
